How do you develop yourself and evolve if you don’t already know yourself? The first step is to get to really know yourself. This person that you are, with all your good and bad qualities, your strengths and weaknesses, your personality, your emotions, your values, your opinions, your aspirations and your ambitions. These characteristics together create that whole person you represent and can be proud of.
Personal development therefore begins with learning … to know yourself.
How to learn to know yourself?
Starting to focus on yourself
To know yourself, you must already refocus on your inner self. Being alone in front of yourself and your feelings, your emotions, will be the first step towards real self-knowledge. But then how to find yourself? There are several ways that I myself have been able to experience. First of all: the solo trip. Going alone, whether it’s halfway around the world or even in another region, is a great way to get to know yourself. This choice of travel allows you to find freedom. To get out of your comfort zone, to be proud of yourself, to gain confidence, to gain independence and autonomy. It allows you to know your strengths and weaknesses, to better understand your reactions and to better manage stress.
It is after a solo trip, with hindsight, that you will know yourself better.
But it’s not just the solo trip that allows us to get to know each other better. There are loads of other exercises you can apply on this path to knowing yourself.
The importance to know who you are
How important is it to know yourself then? Well, since you don’t drive a car without an engine, you can’t love other without loving yourself, and therefore loving yourself without knowing yourself.
Personal fulfillment cannot exist if you don’t love yourself for who you are. And you can’t really love yourself without knowing yourself. Know your qualities and defaults, your strengths and weaknesses, and assume them. Know your personality, your character, your ambitions, motivations, dreams and aspirations. It’s knowing what you like in life and what you don’t like. Be aware of your strengths, know your values. Knowing yourself also allows you to find your way, your personal quest, and to succeed in realizing your dreams and building your projects!
