Giving = Receiving

Blog, Let's Flourish

If giving and receiving were doorways, how open is each in your life?

My openness varies within the moments of my days, and the opportunity presenting itself.  I imagine this is also true for you, yes?

When is your giving or receiving doorway wide open. . .or barely open? giving-flowers

Recently, I noticed how an open heart blurs the distinction between where giving and receiving begin and end.

Giving becomes receiving.

Receiving becomes giving.

You’ve probably experienced this reciprocal merging if you’ve ever been a parent, cared for someone who was dying, or have been in love, yes?

Since the world always reflects you, the energy generated through your time, love and attention is always returned to you, AND shared with others.  Feel free to direct your attention toward yourself, someone you love or a project, because  it’s always the nature of your energy that matters. Tapping into this energy stream, is what keeps abundance alive and flowing for each of us.

I also love that the merging of giving/receiving removes any false notions that one is better than the other.  There will be days when you expand your giving/receiving flow by being in service to another.  In other moments, you find your flow by receiving fully.

When giving and receiving are grounded in love, the direction of the flow  is irrelevant.

Then, the question becomes:

“How do I give/receive fully in this moment?”

Judy, thanks for this lovely reminder that giving and receiving are both centered in the heart, and as natural as breathing in and breathing out. One can’t exist without the other.

    Love, Hiro

Giving creates a flow. Receiving creates a flow. So they are equal in terms of physics. You can’t have one without the other. Someone needs to receive you in order for you to continue to flow. This is what makes love making either–divine, mechanic or unpleasant.

This weekend my eyes happened to fall upon a book on my shelf that changed my life: The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. I have a good friend who is in the process of breaking through some creative blocks and it struck me immediately that he needed to have this book. I gave it to him the next day and he’s immersed in it now, working through the exercises and says he feels more “awake” than he has in a really long time. Based on this incident, and many others with similar dynamics, the most rewarding giving in my experience is always that which the universe clues me into, making it the easiest kind of giving to do.

I can think of only two people in my life and past about whom it is a struggle even to be around. Lately I think about how I might let compassion and understanding turn that around–and sometimes I actually do it. Feels good.

This is Sooooooooooo true, and I think it’s exactly why I LOVE giving more than receiving. That energy seems to last for days. :) The flow opens up your soul. Thanks for reminding us. :)

Judy, I adore these words of yours — and not only because I have a similar post in queue for my blog ;)

I love that blur between giving and receiving. When it happens, an entirely new possibility comes into existence.
