Curious AND Virtuous

Let's Flourish

Did you hear that President Obama includes curiosity as a national value right along with hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, loyalty and patriotism? Like Hanna Rossin, his repositioning of curiosity as a noble character trait in his inaugural address rang out, and grabbed my attention. Wow, indeed, this IS a new day!

You know, curiosity is a keystone to creating the life you desire, yes?

Think about a time you were curious. Like a kid, I bet your interest was aroused, AND you had a sense that everything was ok. Your interest and confidence overshadowed any fear you experienced. Yes, fear thwarts curiosity; desire and trust are much stronger qualities than fear.

I believe that curiosity, at its best, is equal parts interest, trust, and interconnectedness. Together, these ingredients give you a zest for life. I would even venture to say, that your ability to enjoy money, health, love, life, and yourself, equal the level of curiosity you allow yourself to experience.

It’s your interest, or desire that sparks your curiosity. What do you want, like, or wonder about? You may have lost track of what you want, but noticing what inspires your questions can lead you back to your desires.

Trust enables you to know that you are well. Trust allows you to enjoy the journey, and be open to how things will unfold. I LOVE how intimately present, yet objective I can be when I trust how fully the universe holds me.

Ultimately though, I believe it’s our natural interconnectedness that feeds our curiosity. The recognition that everything in the universe is energetically connected inspires an innate desire to expand our affiliation.

I don’t know about you, but when I step into my desire, trust and connectedness, I’m excited to see how it all turns out. I’m engaged, and relaxed. I have a sense of joy, wonder, and mischief. This is my sweet spot, where my best creating happens. No wonder the Prez is promoting curiosity as a national virtue, THIS is how we clarify what matters and take inspired action to create our lives!

Are you to fine tune your innately curious self?

Here are my top 10 ways to nurture your curiosity!

  1. Let your smile be your guide. If you ever feel stuck, ask yourself, “What’s going to make me smile today?”
  2. Enjoy how much we’re all constantly evolving. Ask yourself, “I wonder how the people in my life, and I are evolving today?”
  3. Welcome a spirit of approval, allowing, openness toward yourself. This is contagious! Soon you’ll be open and allowing with others also!
  4. Give your mind a rest! Do something physical and/or creative every day.
  5. Keep the phrase, “all is well” handy, as a salve to soothe feelings of fear, or judgment that may arise.
  6. Enjoy relationships with others who view fun, family, money, tradition, and spirituality differently than you.
  7. Fire up your sense of smell, touch, sight, sound, and taste on a regular basis.
  8. Know that the universe is delivering what you desire. If something seems off course, ask yourself, “I wonder how THIS is taking me toward my desires?”
  9. Notice, and enjoy the details.
  10. Hang out with children, animals and old people often.

How about you, what inspires your curiosity?  What’s it like in your sweet spot?

NICE. I’m in a bad spot in my life but curiosity keeps me going…what’s in my future? What will I be like after I get through school?
What will my life look like after I move to Portland?
    Who will my friends be?
How can I use this time to form myself into someone whom people in Portland will WANT to be my friend? How can I learn from where I am at NOW, by enjoying what I am GIVEN , this day. By making diamonds out of coal!

    Right on, Zed!

I can hear that your questions give you a sense of levity. I also imagine that your mind, soul, and heart churn out lots of fabulous answers to your questions-and this is how you really do continue to create the life you desire!

You’re on it, my friend, fabulous!!
